Save Bued River! Save Binday!

4 June 2010 – Binday, San Fabian, Pangasinan. Residents of Brgys. Binday, Anonang, their supporters and sympathizers staged a Rally near the Binday Dam to manifest their concern with regard to the on-going rehabilitation project being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

During last year’ onslaught of Typhoon Pepeng, a greater portion of Binday, notably Sitio Binday South, was destroyed by rushing flood waters. Twenty-One houses were destroyed, and more than 5 hectares of farmland were eroded and destroyed during that calamity.

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) was one with the protesting residents in asking the Department of Public Works and Highway to present a comprehensive plan in the construction of the flood control dike along Bued River. The Social Action Apostolate of the parish through Bro. Antonio Supremido, the ASAP Parish Coordinator, has been coordinating closely with the residents and officials concerned regarding the said action of the residents.

The residents of Brgys. Binday and Anonang were worried that the construction of the said flood control dike located at the downstream of the Binday Dam could  easily be destroyed by the strong waters rushing coming from the upstream of Bued river.

Engr. Renato Milan, the Provincial Administrator of the National Irrigation Administration, said that the residents do not want a repeat of the disaster that happened to them which destroyed their houses and the irrigation canals resulting in less harvest for them.

Mr. Juan Juguilon, Jr., the Municipal Agriculturist, expressed his apprehension that failure to properly rehabilitate the Bued River will result once again in the destruction of the Binday Dam.

The concerned officials of the Barangays Binday and Anonang and the municipality of San Fabian as well as the affected residents are demanding that they be consulted in the rehabilitation project as they know more about the “life” of Bued River.

A mass was celebrated by Fr. Oliver E. Mendoza, the parish priest, near the Binday Dam, before the Rally was held.

PREX sa Barrio Class No. 1

20 June 2010 – San Fabian. A new pastoral program of the Parish of St. Fabian, Pope and Martyr, was launched in Barangay Palapad, San Fabian. The “PREX sa Barrio” is the adult formation of the parish held in the barangays. The first PREX sa Barrio was held in Brgy. Palapad on 18-19 June 2010.

DSC04439 Since 2004, when the Parish Renewal Experience (PREX) was held in the parish, the weekend seminars had always been held in the Parish Center, at the Poblacion. It has been observed though that during the last PREX weekend seminars, more and more parishioners from the barangays were attending the weekend seminar.

“The PREX sa Barrio” will bring the successful and fruitful holding of the seminars in the barangays so as to give more opportunity for the barangays to avail of the PREX seminar.

The PREX at the Poblacion will take place after every “PREX in the Barrio” so as not to disrupt the continuity of the adult formation program in the parish.

The “PREX sa Barrio” is using a module especially designed for the needs and situation of the barangays. Instead of the three days, the “PREX sa Barrio” will start in the evening of Friday and will end in the evening of the next day.The Parish PREX secretariat and the PREX graduates helped in the sponsoring and the facilitating of the weekend seminar in Brgy. Palapad. Fr. Oliver E. Mendoza, the parish priest, gave the talks and conferences for the seminar.

Vision and Mission of ALDCS

Rev. Fr. Manuel S. Bravo, Jr, the Catholic Schools Superintendent, read the new Vision and Mission of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan Catholic Schools  (ALDCS). The politics of the Church: Communio

In his homily, Msgr. Socrates B. Villegas, DD mentioned that politics of the church is communio. Communio has three elements. First is the “Communio with God”. He said that we  cannot be a good teacher, a good priest-director or even a bishop if we are not in the grace of God.

Secondly, there must be communio with the Church. In rephrasing the words of St. John the Apostle, Msgr. Villegas asked, “How can you say you are in communio with God who you cannot see, when you can not be in communio with others who you can see?”

Thirdly, there must be communio with the society. He said that the Catholic Schools should not only produce God loving pupils but also produce patriotic students.

“While we are proud to be Catholics, we must be proud that we are Filipinos”, Msgr. Villegas said. “Love of country is another expression of our love of God.” (TO LISTEN TO THE HOMILY OF MSGR. SOCRATES B. VILLEGAS, DD, please click HERE).
