San Fabian Church, one of the Featured Churches in the CBCP’s Visita Iglesia

The church of the Parish of St. Fabian, Pope and Martyr, is featured as one of the churches in the Visita Iglesia online of the CBCP.

Visita Iglesia online  is a project of the CBCP Media Office which offers a "virtual experience of celebrating Lent, the Holy Week and Easter at the comfort of one's room."

It was primarily launched for overseas Filipino workers.

The website offers the  pasyon (sung readings of the Gospel account of Christ's Passion). It  invites the visitors to watch videos of the Seven Last Words, read homilies and take part in the Stations of the Cross via a computer with an Internet connection.

The church of the Epiphany of the Lord in Lingayen, Pangasinan is also featured in the website.

In the video, Fr. Oliver E. Mendoza, the parish priest of San Fabian, gives a short history of the parish. He also mentions the special devotion of the parish to the Divine Mercy. “The Divine Mercy devotion has become a vehicle in the formation of the BECs of the parish”, he said. He then invites the visitors to “come and join us, pray with us …. here in the parish of St. Fabian.”

"The liturgy is a community act and being so it is most meaningfully celebrated in the context of the community or the parish," CBCP media director Msgr. Pedro Quitorio said in the group's website.

Archbishops of Lingayen-Dagupan

Bishop CESARE MARIE GUERRERO was born in Ermita, Manila on January 26, 1885 and received priestly ordination on October 28, 1914. He was consecrated bishop on May 24, 1929. He was Bishop of Lingayen from May 24, 1929 until December 16, 1937. He died on March 28, 1961 as Bishop of San Fernando in Pampanga.

Archbishop MARIANO MADRIAGA was born in Agoo, La Union on May 5, 1902 and received priestly ordination on March 15, 1930. He was consecrated bishop on May 24, 1938 for the Diocese of Lingayen. It was during his tenure that this ecclesiastical jurisdiction was renamed Diocese of Lingayen Dagupan on February 11, 1954. When the diocese was elevated to the rank of a metropolitan archdiocese, he became the first Metropolitan Archbishop on February 16, 1963. He was the Archbishop of Lingayen Dagupan until February 7, 1973. He died in Agoo on November 1, 1981.

Archbishop FEDERICO G. LIMON, SVD was born in Mangaldan, Pangasinan on October 3, 1915 and received priestly ordination on May 14, 1942 for the Society of the Divine Word. He was consecrated bishop on February 13, 1972 and became Archbishop of Lingayen Dagupan from February 7, 1973 until July 15, 1991. He died on June 13, 1996 in Dagupan City.

Archbishop OSCAR V. CRUZ was born on November 17, 1934 in Balanga, Bataan and received priestly ordination on February 10, 1962. He was consecrated bishop on May 3, 1976. He was the Archbishop of Lingayen Dagupan from July 15, 1991 until September 8, 2009.

Archbishop SOCRATES B. VILLEGAS was born in Manila on September 28, 1960 and received priestly ordination on October 5, 1985. He was consecrated bishop on August 31, 2001. He was appointed Archbishop of Lingayen Dagupan on September 8, 2009.

San Fabian Parish Church circa January 1945

24 June 2009 - San Fabian. A photograph taken almost 64 years ago showing the San Fabian Church's belfry in ruins was given to the parish priest by the grandson of the soldier who took the photo. The photo was taken in January 1945, just after the Americans landed in San Fabian, Pangasinan. The photographer was Carl R. Thien.

Carl R. Thien was born in New York. During the war, he served as a combat photographer with the 201st CIC Corps which served in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. His grandson, Justin R. Taylan, is the creator of the website Pacific Wrecks.
