Rectory Roof undergoes much needed repairs

25 July 2010 – San Fabian, Pangasinan. Typhoon Cosme in 2008 brought much destruction in San Fabian. The parish church and the rectory were not spared by the fury of the typhoon. One third of the front part of the parish church was blown off. Several other parts of the roof were blown off. The roof of the rectory suffered the same fate.

Two years after destruction caused by Typhoon Cosme, the roof of the parish rectory is now undergoing repairs.

“After Typhoon Cosme, whenever it rains, the rains pour outside and inside the rectory!” said Fr. Oliver E. Mendoza, the Parish Priest of the Parish of St. Fabian, Pope and Martyr.

“It is about time that the roof undergoes the much needed repairs”, observes Fr. Mendoza.

The repairs started almost a month ago, and will soon be finished by the first week of August 2010. Bro. Bernie Solis has been undertaking the repairs.

Repainting of the Parish Church starts

25 September 2009 – San Fabian. The work on the repainting of the church of the Parish of St. Fabian began last Monday, 21 September. The repainting is being done in preparation for the Vicariate III (Queen of the Most Holy Rosary) Christ the King celebration. The Parish of St. Fabian is the host parish.

In 2003, when the parish hosted the Vicariate III celebration of the solemnity of Christ the King, the belfry was restored and constructed. At that time, the facade of the parish church was painted.

The repainting will also include the inside of the church. The ceiling and the walls of the church are in need of repairs. In 2008, at the height of Typhoon Cosme, the roof of the parish church was destroyed by the strong winds. The rectory suffered the same destruction. Even today, the dirt and streaks of dirty water could be seen on the walls and ceiling of the church.

Engr. Santiago Alhambra is supervising the work. Mr. Pipoy Ferraro is contracted by the parish to paint the facade and the inside of the church.

The NEW Garden of the Resurrection for Ossuaries

14 August 2009 – San Fabian. A garden where simple but refined ossuaries could be stored was built by the parish of St. Fabian. An ossuary, also referred to as a bone house, is a facility for the storage of human bones. The existing place for ossuaries is the Chapel of Mt. Carmel where wakes are also held. Unfortunately, the chapel has, as of late, cannot anymore accommodate more ossuaries. The new project also provides the parishioners another option where to transfer the bones of loved ones buried at the Catholic cemeteries in Cayanga and Nibaliw.

The project was started during the last week of May 2009. Work stopped for a month. It was resumed on the first week of July. By the end of the same month, the project was completed and finished. The blessing of the garden was scheduled last 12 August. But due to bad weather, the blessing was re-scheduled on 19 August 2009, Wednesday, after the afternoon mass.

Parish Project almost finished

24 July 2009 – San Fabian. After a little more than a month, the project initiated by the Parish Pastoral Council as a commemoration of the hosting of the Vicariate III Celebration of the the Solemnity of Christ this coming 22 November 2009, is about 95% finished. The Pastoral Pastoral Council last 20 May 2009 decided that one of the two major projects that would be built would be the construction of a covered pathway linking the parish church, the parish center and the Mt. Carmel Chapel. The other project is the repair of the roof of the parish rectory.

The project was started lat 10 June 2009. Bro. Bernie Solis was tasked to build the covered pathway with Engr. Santiago Alhambra.

Polycarbonate material is used to cover the pathway. The project will protect parishioners from rains and will provide shade for parishioners as they walk from the church to the parish center.

When finished, the project will cost about Phil Pesos Two Hundred Eighty One Thousand (P281,000.00). Funds for the construction of the pathway are being solicited from the generosity of the parishioners.
